The island of La Palma or also called "La Isla Bonita", "La Isla Verde" or "La Isla Corazón" has many reasons to be visited. It is a quiet island with a mild climate (both in summer and winter) thanks to its location in the Atlantic Ocean and its proximity to the African continent.
To get to know the island, we make it easy for you and you can hire a rental car at the airport. Renting a car guarantees you the freedom to move around as and when you want. The main roads are the LP-1, which runs along the northern arch of the island, the LP-2, along the southern arch, and the LP-3, "the one that crosses the summit". The LP-4 accesses the Roque de Los Muchachos and the LP-5 leads to the tourist centre of Los Cancajos.
Now you have your hire car and it's time to enjoy this charming island. From La Palma International Airport via the LP-5, you will reach the island's capital, Santa Cruz de La Palma, 8 km away. From there, if we want to travel around the island from the easternmost part, Santa Cruz de La Palma, to the westernmost part, Tazacorte, it will take us about 45 minutes by car, and if we travel from the northernmost part, Villa de Garafía, to the southernmost part, Fuencaliente, it will take us about two and a half hours. If you want to get lost in the most emblematic spots, make a stop in charming corners, the route will be longer.
One of the places where you can get lost and explore the island's nature is the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. It is located at Km 23.900 on the LP-3, the road that links the two largest towns on the island: Santa Cruz de La Palma and Los Llanos de Aridane. To get to the Cumbrecita viewpoint, the most visited point, there is a 7 km road from the Visitor Centre to the viewpoint.
