What to visit with my rental car from La Gomera?

You've already got into your hire car, so make the most of it and drive around the island from end to end without missing a thing. We suggest an itinerary to get to know this fabulous island in depth.

Your car hire trip in La Gomera can start in San Sebastián de La Gomera, the capital of the island and the most easterly point. In addition to its cobbled streets and multi-coloured houses with a clear colonial influence, it is characterised by being a very quiet town, ideal for relaxing and escaping the hustle and bustle of the big cities.

Once there you can visit the Torreón del Conde, a 15th century fortress, the Plaza de la Constitución and the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. A curious fact that you may be interested to know is that the port of San Sebastián has a long history, as it was in this port that Christopher Columbus began his voyage to America in 1492.

To continue, we recommend you visit another spectacular spot on the island. Valle Gran Rey, located just an hour and a quarter from the capital, crossing the island from east to west in your hire car. It is the tourist centre of the island and another of those places you must see in La Gomera.

In El Valle Gran Rey you'll find dizzying cliffs surrounding the bay with breathtaking views. But that's not all, as Valle Gran Rey is also the starting point for exploring the network of trails that run through the Garajonay National Park. Once there, you can't miss Charco del Conde, Playa la Calera or Playa del Inglés. But if there is a well-known beach in this town, it is Playa de las Vueltas, where you can see manta rays swimming just a few centimetres away from you.  

Visiting La Gomera: the places not to be missed

Another thing you shouldn't miss is a visit to one of the many viewpoints on La Gomera, each one better than the last. If you are coming from Valle Gran Rey and Garajonay, you can drive along the north-western part of the island to the Mirador de Abrante. The drive takes less than an hour and the route along the secondary roads and tracks is impressive. We won't spoil it for you, but the views will leave you open-mouthed.  

Continue your adventure to Hermigua and its beach, just 25 minutes from the viewpoint, where the Pescante de Hermigua awaits you, the island's old port through which all the products produced on La Gomera were shipped. It was active for 42 years and has now been abandoned for more than 70 years. It will not disappoint you.

The journey is up to you. Visit hidden and wild beaches, go hiking, relax with a coffee or soft drink on a terrace in any of the many charming villages of the island and explore viewpoints, the natural monument of the organs, roads, valleys and mountains with all the tranquility and flexibility that your rental car gives you.
