How to get to Jerez

There are several ways that travellers use to get to Jerez de la Frontera. Therefore, from Pepecar we recommend you some of the most interesting options to really enjoy this city. We also recommend you to book a car hire at Jerez Airport, Jerez Train Station and its surroundings.

Car hire tours in Jerez

Without a doubt, the province of Cadiz is famous for flamenco, fried fish or the Route of the 'Pueblos Blancos' (White Villages), among many other things. Therefore, from Pepecar we don't want you to miss some of the most beautiful places around Jerez de la Frontera. And, remember, if you book your car hire in Jerez you will have all the facilities to move to each and every one of the places we recommend below.

PUERTO DE SANTA MARÍA

El Puerto de Santa María is, without a doubt, one of the must-visits. This coastal city, located to the southwest of Jerez, has a spectacular maritime offer. Among its most outstanding beaches are Valdelagrana, La Muralla, La Calita and La Puntilla. You can enjoy the most beautiful sunsets on the Valdelagrana seafront with views of Cadiz and the Atlantic Ocean in the background. In addition, one of the biggest attractions are the motorbike exhibitions in the Real Plaza de Toro. Another recommendation is to visit both the Iglesia Mayor Prioral and the Castillo de San Marcos, two of the oldest and most emblematic places in the town.

The distance between Jerez and Puerto de Santa María is about 20 kilometres. Take your hire car, head towards the A-491 and in about 20 minutes you will have reached your destination.

ROTA

This small town, unknown to many, offers unique natural landscapes. Rota is famous for its beautiful beaches, including Rota, Costa Ballena, Punta Candor and La Costilla, the latter being the most important of the area. Here you will also find the Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden, a charming natural spot ideal to visit either alone or with company.

The distance between Jerez and Rota is about 32 kilometres. To get there, take the A-2078 and you will find the beautiful town of Rota in 20 minutes. Thanks to our car hire booked with Pepecar you will be able to enjoy one of the favourite holiday destinations for locals and travellers.

ARCOS DE LA FRONTERA

This village is the starting point for the Route of the Pueblos Blancos (White Villages). Arcos is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain and, if that were not enough, it is a Historic-Artistic Monument of Spain. This wonderful village is located in the vicinity of Jerez de la Frontera, on top of a hill. Its views are stunning and its streets are worth a visit.

In this beautiful village you can visit incredible places such as the Castle of Arcos, located in the highest part of the village and declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. You will also find the Minor Basilica and Parish Church of Santa María de la Asunción, of Mudejar origin and Baroque and Renaissance styles. Finally, you must visit the Peña de Berlanga viewpoint, commonly known as the Balcón del ¡coño! This viewpoint is located practically on the edge of the Arcos cliff and that interjection is usually the expression tourists use when they look out from here.

Food

A land of cultural bonds, Jerez is known for its cuisine, especially its wine. In this wonderful city you can sample the most delicious delicacies of Andalusia. But, before you delve into Jerez's gastronomy, we recommend you to look for the Tabancos (small taverns typical of Jerez) to taste authentic delicacies. To start with, we recommend you order some good fried chicharrones (sausages), made with a mixture of pork fat, paprika, salt and black pepper. For meat lovers, Jerez is a land with a strong bullfighting tradition, so one of the star dishes in this city is bull's tail.

Other typical dishes here are ajo caliente, made with garlic, tomato, pepper, bread and olive oil, los riñones al jerez, a typical dish as it is made with sherry wine, gazpacho, la berza jerezana, a Jerez stew made with chickpeas, white beans, broad beans, peas (not always), pork, cabbage, cardoons, tagarninas and chard, and, of course, a good stew, very similar to the cocido madrileño (stew from Madrid). All these dishes can be accompanied by a sherry wine. Among them, we can highlight the fino wine, the Palomino wine, the Pedro Ximénez, the amontillado wine (between fino and oloroso wine), the oloroso wine or the palo cortado.

What to visit in Jerez

In addition to gastronomy, motorbikes, horses or the fair, Jerez has a historical and cultural heritage that has nothing to envy to other big cities. Book your car hire in Jerez and visit the most interesting, touristic and emblematic places in the city, such as the González Byass wineries, where some of the best wines in the world are made and where the Tío Pepe doll stands out.

Also worth visiting is the Old Quarter of Jerez, considered an Asset of Cultural Interest, where you will find places such as the Cathedral of Jerez, one of the largest and most imposing in the province of Cádiz, the Church of San Miguel, whose tower is one of the highest points in the city, the Church of San Mateo, the oldest church in Jerez, the walls of Jerez de la Frontera and the Alcazar of Jerez, of Almohad, Jewish and Christian origin, one of the oldest fortresses in Spain, where you can visit the Camera Obscura.

If you like shopping, we recommend you to visit the Luz Shopping and Área Sur Shopping Centres, located next to each other and forming one of the largest shopping centres in Andalusia. We also recommend you not to miss the opportunity to visit other places such as the Cartuja de Jerez, the Archaeological Museum, the Old Town Hall, the Villamarta Theatre, the Zoobotanic of Jerez, or the emblematic building known as El Gallo Azul, commissioned by the Domecq family, is one of the most photographed spots in the city.
