What to see with my hire car in Mahon and Menorca?

Once you've chosen the car that best suits your needs, it's time to set off, explore and enjoy. Menorca is a spectacular island in the Balearic archipelago of just 700 km². In fact, from one end of the island to the other it is less than 50 km which can be done, if there is not too much traffic, in little more than 40 minutes. With your hire car in Mahón, you can explore the whole island freely and at your own pace, so we leave you with a route of small villages for you to visit:

• Castells and the Fort of Marlborough: once you have seen Mahón and heading south, in the town of Es Castell, specifically in the Cala de Sant Esteve, you will find the famous Fort of Marlborough, built by the English in 1720 to protect the city. Nowadays it is used for theatrical performances and plays. On very hot days, the best option is to drive to the entrance of the building.
   
• Binibeca: this old fishing village is located at a distance of about 10 kilometres from Mahón and Castells, so, thanks to car hire in Mahón, you will be there in less than 20 minutes. To get directly to this fishing village, take the Binibequer Vell entrance. This area is very touristy due to the beauty of its cobbled streets and whitewashed houses. It is well worth taking a stroll through its labyrinthine streets and getting lost. Binibeca also has the advantage of having a beach within walking distance.
   
• La Ciutadella de Menorca: Ciudatella is only 45 kilometres from Mahón and 55 from Binibeca. With your hire car in Mahón you will get there in about 45 minutes. It is a place full of history, legends and beauty, with many terraced bars, restaurants and beach bars. Its port is one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean and at its entrance you will see the lighthouse, the Castle of San Nicolás and the Camino de Abajo that runs along the beach. We recommend a stroll through the streets of Ciutadella to its Old Town and visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria, the Plaza del Borne and the Church of Socorro, places that you cannot miss if you visit Ciutadella.
   
• Coves, lighthouses and beaches in Minorca: on your hire car route from Mahón, take advantage of the total flexibility it provides and stop at different points between destinations. If you drive through the north of the island from Ciutadella on your way back to Mahón, you can't miss a visit to the island's beautiful coves. In the south of Menorca, Cala en Turqueta, located about 14 km from Ciutadella, stands out for its beauty.
   
• Fornells: this town also has a long fishing tradition as well as a bay of more than 3 kilometres long. One of the most visited points is the 19th century Fornells Tower. From here you can get an impressive panoramic view of the island that is well worth taking a photograph of. If Fornells stands out for anything, both within Menorca and in the rest of the world, it is for its famous Caldereta de Langosta (lobster stew). It is in this part of the island where you can taste the most exquisite calderetas that have given it international fame. If you want to go for a swim, there are some coves nearby such as Cala Tirant or Cala Pregonda.

From Fornells you can get back to Mahón in less than half an hour. On the way there are many other beautiful spots worth stopping and visiting.
