Birth
It was born as the culmination of a project incubated by Miguel de Lucas, who is one of the co-founding partners.
As the first option in seeking investors an offer was made to GLOBALIA CORP, given the synergies that this group contributed to the enterprise. The business plan was presented to Globalia’s General Director, Javier Hidalgo, who was quick to back the initiative by acquiring a majority holding for GLOBALIA, which holds 51% of the share capital and exhorted various group directors to support the project. Independently of this, Javier Hidalgo has been collaborating to date in the strategic decisions for the business, always providing an innovative vision in a sector that is very lacking in this type of action.
Start of operations: 1 April 2003
What has been essential in the success of the pepecar project is the contribution from its directors, who have been fundamental in this and to whom we wish to pay merited tribute and thanks for their work:

This integration of commitments and persosn is the factor that has made pepecar.con one of the few successful “dot com” launches in the last 2 years.
Pepecar in numbers
First complete financial year November 2003 – October 2004
The financial year 2004 ended with sales of € 9.2 million € and a profit before tax of € 420,000.
It arrived at 1,900 vehicles and collaboration strategies were started with local operators on the coasts with marked seasonal business. This circumstance gave rise to magnificent results and, for the financial year 2005, we have continued on the track of managing seasonal/holiday demand with local operators specialised in very specific areas and concentrating on markets with less seasonal variations and with a better yield.
Second year: 2005.
The turnover for 2005 is expected to exceed € 13 million and a pre-tax result of around € 1 million. By that date pepecar will have 14 own points and around 60 associates under its seasonal markets and associated operators programme.
New actions for 2006
- A new WEB Site suitable for all types of browsers and with all of the functionalities demanded by our users. The direct channel represents 70% of pepecar’s sales.
- Strengthening the commercial links and synergies that link us to the different group companies: integrating the pepecar offer into the Air Europa WEB Site, improving communications and systems in the Halcón and Ecuador travel agencies, as well as providing incentives to the commercial channels.
- Capillary action for distribution so as to reach provincial capitals where demand justifies this.
- Planning the summer 2006 campaigns with our associates so as to meet targets.
- Strengthening the highly successful INDUSTRIALES model, christened pepefurgo and which already has 100 units between Madrid and Barcelona.
- Creating a project for companies in which these can always choose to pay much less by assuming certain limitations in the pepecar product.
- Offering the consumer the option of planning the use of the vehicle so as to save by comparison with ownership and the interminable costs that supposes. This means following our maxim that the market is always elastic and can be expanded through prices.
- PEPEFRANQUICIAS will start up with a selection of local entrepreneurs in markets that pepecar considers to be suitable. The choice of franchises will always follow the criteria of added value for the pepecar project; profiles from the motor and/or tourist sector will be considered ideal.
